Our mission of
preserving and perpetuating our region’s traditional Appalachian music
and dance needs your assistance. The Folk Heritage Committee operates
under the fiscal and legal oversight of the tax-exempt Community
Betterment Foundation of the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce;
however, the Committee receives no funding from the Foundation or
Chamber, and is independently responsible for raising all money
necessary to annually produce the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival and
Shindig on the Green. The Committee members, performers, emcees and
volunteers all contribute time and other resources without monetary
compensation. Although some services are provided by sponsors and
volunteers, operating expenses involved in staging events of this nature
are substantial. Individual Donations Shindig and the
Festival depend on contributions from individuals and families. Many
local businesses struggling to survive the economic downturn find it
difficult to sponsor cultural events. City government faces budget
shortfalls and is cutting back services previously provided to free
cultural events like Shindig on the Green. We need your individual
contribution now more than ever. Individual contributions have helped to
make the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival the longest running folk
festival in the nation and ensured the ongoing phenomenon of the much
loved Shindig on the Green, enjoyed for free by 3,000 – 5,000 people on
Saturday evenings throughout the summer. Please make checks payable to Folk Heritage Committee and mail to: Folk Heritage Committee PO Box 1010 Asheville, NC
28802 The Folk Heritage
Committee operates under the fiscal oversight of the Community
Betterment Foundation; the 501(c)(3) non-profit tax identification
number is 56-1762978. Corporate Sponsorships The Mountain Dance
and Folk Festival and Shindig on the Green present a unique opportunity
for businesses to support an important historic and cultural event while
reaching both a large regional and national audience. Corporate sponsors
receive recognition based on the level of giving – via cash or the
in-kind donation of goods and services. Please email
