Streaming of the 93rd Annual Mountain Dance and Folk Festival®

The nation’s longest continuously running folk festival showcases the best of the region’s traditional and old-time musi- cians, ballad singers, storytellers, big-circle mountain dancers and cloggers. Asheville’s Folk Heritage Committee Announces Plans to Stream the 93rd Annual Mountain Dance and Folk Festival®

Asheville, NC – The Folk Heritage Committee is delighted to announce it will stream the 93rd Mountain Dance and Folk Festival® on the days it was originally scheduled for UNCA. Because of state, county and city COVID-19 restrictions on mass gatherings, the Folk Heritage Commit- tee encourages you to join us online for a unique celebration of this long-standing traditional event.

On August 6, 7 and 8 a different show will be streamed at no charge each evening at 7:30pm allowing you to move your feet to high-energy, hand-clapping Bluegrass; enjoy a waltz with your favorite partner; sing along with ballads handed down from early Appalachian settlers; learn a few clogging steps and dance figures; and enjoy master storytellers as they take you to another place and time all in the comfort and safety of your home. The performances will air on our YouTube Channel (ShindigontheGreenAVL) and from our Facebook Page (Shindig on the Green and Mountain Dance and Folk Festival).

The Mountain Dance and Folk Festival event showcases the best of the region’s mountain musi- cians, dancers and storytellers. It features long-standing as well as the newest generation of tradi- tional and mountain string bands, ballad singers, and big circle mountain dancers and cloggers, resulting in fun-filled and authentic evenings enjoyed by all ages.

The non-profit, all-volunteer Folk Heritage Committee’s mission is to preserve and present the musical heritage of the Southern Appalachian Mountains to audiences from throughout the re- gion and world, for entertainment and education, by producing the annual Shindig on the Green® and the Mountain Dance and Folk Festival® events.
