Mountain Jam Circle logoThis year’s raffle features another magnificent quilt made for The Folk Heritage Committee by Mountain Jam Circle. This design is called a “string” quilt, the “strings” being strips of leftover fabric that in the past might have included old clothes, sheets, or feed sacks. String quilts were popular in the rural south starting in the 1880s, and especially during the depression when sewing supplies were hard to come by. This queen-sized quilt has an estimated value of $1,000.
